A Letter to Me

Dear Me,

Tonight you are feeling just a little "blah."  It is the last night of the kids' Christmas (Winter or Holiday as the schools call it) Break.  You never like it when they go back to school after a lengthy break.  The day they go back after the summer is the worst.

As far as siblings go, they get along really well.  Bickering has been at a minimum these past couple weeks.  You find yourself wishing they would argue a little more because that might just make it easier to send them off to school tomorrow.

You all came into this break looking for just that, a break.  You had several lazy days where you decided to shower for the sake of the other people in the house.  The kids had a great time opening Christmas presents.  You are all so blessed.  Watching them smile when they open their treasures really makes your heart smile.

The fake excitement and surprise you and P.K. display for the kids when you open gifts from each other is comical.  You know you each just buy what you want and wrap it up from the other so the kids will have fun watching you.  You may have even stooped to sending P.K. the link to the tortilla press you wanted this year.  Ha!  It worked.

There were some busy moments, too.  Your mom and Jim came and you ran your mom from activity to activity.  Aaron was so proud when Ms. Jennie tied that black belt around his waste.  He is such a good kid.  Even though Rachel was sure to tell everyone her part in her first production was small one, you thought she was fabulous and were glad you got to see it four times.  Hannah was so sweet singing in the children's choir at the Family Christmas Eve Service.  And...who knew P.K. would drive you to tears with that fabulous Christmas Eve sermon.

Then you spent days researching and writing that Sunday School lesson.  You forgot how much you love to get lost in a word study or commentary, didn't you?  Don't forget that you promised yourself and the Lord that you would devote more time to that love of studying when the kids go back to school.  You also promised yourself you would take the time to run again.  Yes, I know it is more of a jog, slow man shuffle, non-walk, but do it anyway.

Then there was the phone call that Uncle Charlie was in the hospital and this time it was really bad.  You knew you wanted to make it to the funeral to say good-bye.  That kind of closure is good for everyone.  You were so glad that P.K. was so willing to take the time off and go with you and the kids.  The family time in the car was fun.  Rachel laughed that you loved the 80s music she was playing and P.K. made the comment that her 80s is our 50s.  Way to make you feel old.

You finally got around to taking the Christmas decorations down today.  It was really okay because yesterday was Epiphany.

You have plans for big changes this year.  I know that makes you a little sad because you love your home here and you finally feel like you have a church family like the one you grew up with.  You will miss those people.  However, the Lord taught you a long time ago that you have to "Bloom Where You Are Planted" and if He is planting you somewhere else you will do what He asks.  If all goes according to plan, this time next year you will be sitting in your new home.  I know your heart is begging the Lord to make it an easy transition for the kids.  You're a tough cookie and not new to this moving thing, but please, please, please, let Him protect their hearts.

You are looking forward to reading through the blog posts you make in 2013.  Guess that means you better not be a blog slacker!!

Whatever this year brings remember that God is good and He is in control.

Now I know you can hear your girls giggling in the other room as they try to out dance each other on Just Dance.  Go check it out.

Blessings,

Me

A Little Snow

Aaron and Hannah were excited that there was snow on the ground in Evansville for our trip.  There wasn't a lot, but more than what we have in Georgia.  Because their Papaw Roger is a big kid, he took them out to make a snowman.

Aaron is trying to catch a snowflake on his tongue.
