Lather Up

Aaron has had a bit of a mustache for a while.  He has mentioned learning how to shave a couple times, but I didn't force the issue because it is one of those things that means he is growing up and I'm really trying to discourage the kids in this house from growing up so quickly.

Alas, the time came and P.K. took the time to teach Aaron how it is done.  Neither of them was thrilled to have me taking pictures of the moment, but I'm sure they will look back one day and be very glad that I caught that father and son moment.

Back to the Beach

I've spent most of the winter waiting for the weather to be warm enough to once again join lazy days at the beach.  There is something about being there that totally relaxes me.  I love the sound of the waves, watching the kids play in the water and digging my toes through the warm sand to find the cool wet sand buried below the surface.

We decided to spend Memorial Day at Sandbridge.  We left early and thought we would beat the crowds.  We were surprised to be find a line waiting to get into the parking lot.  Even though there was a wait to park, the beach didn't seem to be too crowded.

That's Aaron and PK past the blue chair.

Aaron brought his heavy duty camping shovel this time.

It was a relaxing first day back.  We have tons of company lined up this summer and I can guarantee I will be taking them all to the beach.

More Art

This is my favorite piece Hannah has created to date.  The details bring the wolf to life.  I've framed this one and have it on display in our dining room.

When I posted a picture of the wolf on Facebook, a friend from Georgia who happens to be a veterinarian asked if Hannah would be willing to do a possum drawing for her.  Hannah agreed.
She set up a home studio on the screened in porch.

This is the finished possum.  Hannah was happy to find out that our friend framed it and hung it in one of the exam rooms in her clinic.

Mother's Day

My morning started out as many of our celebration days do in this house, with cookie cake for breakfast.

I was also given a margarita flavored wine cooler with my coffee because my card mentioned margaritas.  For the record, I did not consume it with my coffee.  Ha!

The youth group at the church where Rachel has been attending youth was leading the service today.  Rachel was given the privilege of delivering the sermon.  She did a fantastic job!!  It was the best Mother's Day gift ever.  Doug, Shannon and the girls joined us for church so they could support Rachel.  Then Doug fixed lunch for all of us for Mother's Day.  It was delicious!!

Half of Our Lives

PK planned a date night to celebrate our anniversary this year.  I love that he planned ahead.  The hardest part for me was deciding what to wear.  PK wanted the restaurant to be a surprise, so he told me the dress code was business casual, but I think that can mean many different things.  I finally decided on my new black dress and borrowed one of Rachel's necklaces.

We went to a restaurant in Virginia Beach and the food was delicious!!

This anniversary marks twenty one years of marriage, but counting the year (almost a whole year) we dated, we've been together for twenty two years.  That makes this year the year that we have been together for over half of our lives.  That makes it sound like a really long time.

Like I said, I really appreciated that PK put some thought into celebrating with me and planned our date ahead of time.  It was nice to share some kid free time together.
