The Book Fair

I often tell my friend Becky that she should start a blog. She always has the funniest stories. Yesterday we were talking on the phone and she had a couple good stories that were so blog worthy so of course I told her those were blog worthy. I think she even beat me to saying it once. She told me that she didn't think she would have enough things to write about. She also said she only checks three blogs and she is so disappointed when they are not updated. Ouch! I'm pretty sure mine is one of the three.

I have several things I was going to lump together in one post, but just for you Becizzle, I will break them up into several different posts. I was actually wanting some of them to have their own special post anyway so this will work out well.

That said, I give you my decorating contribution to the 2009 Spring Book Fair. The theme was Lights, Camera, Book Fair.

I was very happy with the way this sign turned out. It is made from foam board, plastic solo cups and white Christmas lights. There is a little hot glue and packing tape mixed in there as well. It was really easy to make, but a pain to hang. Someone else did the Oscar cutout and the area around it had some decorations attached later. I don't have a final picture.

This is the bulletin board I made for the teacher's wish lists. Scholastic had something similar on their website. I printed out the template for the popcorn buckets from their site onto red paper. I found the big pieces of popcorn at a teachers store and the 1, 2, 3 poster came with information for the book fair. The teachers put little slips with the names of books they wanted into the bucket with their name on it. This was put together on a trifold board so it stood up. This is laying flat on my floor, so it doesn't look just right.

Jody - you are ever the crafty one. The mom that puts me to shame in this department. You better post soon on ways you LACK, to make me feel better. No, really, you seem to be such a good mom - your kids AND their school are blessed to have you (and your hubby of course!).

You both should know that we had a picture of a similar sign and bulletin board. All I had to do was copy it. My major was elementary ed and every class I took in my major, required some kind of bulletin board or project. Glad I can use it some.

Kristy...the problem with only knowing someone through their blog posts is you don't always get the bad and the ugly with the good. I'm sure I gave you some of the bad and ugly during our Bible study last summer. Girlfriend, I don't think I could list all of my shortcomings in one blog post. One of my weaknesses is my lack of patience which my kids (and hubby) would probably tell you.

How cool. I love the big sign. It looks professional. I must tuck these ideas away for when Alex is in school and I can no longer putter the day away :(

Well done, my friend! Love the cups and Christmas lights idea. It doesn't matter whether it was original or not--so long as you pull it together! There's not an idea in my design / artsy arsenal that didn't come from someone else. Doesn't make the idea or the execution any less cool. :) Well done. And just so you know, you're the most patient person I know--right after me! LOL!!!!! XOXO

Way too crafty, woman! I still haven't forgiven you for bamboozling me into helping you with VBS snacks that year. If it were up to me, they'd have had goldfish and graham crackers. But, no-o, you had to get all fancy. Remember the palm tree cupcakes?!

Marine Wife,

I was just thinking about the palm tree cupcakes the other night. I was cracking up at the memory of trying to keep our children quiet in that closet of a kitchen with the class going on right outside the flimsy door.

But those cupcakes sure were cute when they were finished. Do you have a picture? I can't believe neither of us thought to take one.

The memory of the Barbie cake might be another one you might want to forget.
