Gone Fishin'

We had such a great afternoon. Rachel's class at church had a family picnic at the home of a wonderful and very gracious couple from our church. This couple contacted Rachel's children's pastor and offered up their pond. That's right. They contacted the children's pastor. The couple greeted us and helped us fish all afternoon. I really didn't want to fish. Mainly because I don't really know how and I didn't want to help three children who don't really know how. My dad has taken them fishing before, but they are not pros. Everyone was so helpful. Our hosts had plenty of poles to go around. By the end of the day I was tearing off pieces of worms and baiting hooks. Yeah! You can officially call me Super Mom! My friend Kari and I attend the same church and one of her daughters is in Rachel's class so their family was there today.

Aaron was the first one from our family to catch a fish. This little guy could have fished all day. He caught five. The man in the yellow shirt is the property owner.

Here's a picture of Rachel and Cassidy. Cassidy set the record for number of catches today. She would throw her line in and have a fish almost immediately.

Check out MacKenzie's look of surprise at seeing a fish. Or it could be that she is surprised her daddy finally caught one. The poor guy stood patiently in one spot while people two feet away were catching fish.

Rachel fishing while Hannah supervises.

It is never a good idea to let the little kids make friends with the bait.

You can't see the worm, but that is me putting the part I just tore off on Aaron's hook.

Hannah and MacKenzie chillin' for just a moment. That was probably one of the few times we weren't saying, "Don't get too close to the water."

This would be a shot of one of the times we didn't say, "Don't get too close to the water" soon enough. Notice the bottom of MacKenzie's pant leg is a bit darker than the rest.

Hannah got brave enough to hold the fish.

Kari's fish. I really am dying to post the picture of Kari's face when she was putting a worm on her hook, but good friends are hard to find.

I didn't fish, but I found this little guy. I'm pretty certain it is a baby snapping turtle.

I think I learned enough about fishing today that I would be willing to take the kids. It would totally be catch and release because I am drawing the line at mommy having to clean the fish.

Awesome pics, my friend. I haven't checked my e-mail yet, but I'm pretty certain that I'm really glad you didn't post the bait picture. I'm going to have to start being nicer to you so that you don't ever entertain the possibility of blackmail! ;-)

Glad you and the kids came out today! It really was a great day, wasn't it?

Can I just say "YOU DA WOMAN!!!"?? Way to go--I'm totally making Doug do the fishing trips. I haven't cut a worm in half since 9th grade biology lab, and that was only with tweezers and an exacto knife--no touching the actual worm... It sounds like a fun day overall--loved the pics!XO Sassy

That looks like a great day ya'll got to have! Isn't it so amazing when a fellow brother and sister in Christ does something so special for others - because of their love for the Lord? That was so sweet of them to offer their pond for a day of fishing. Now - I don't know if I would have gone as far as you - tearing worms and baiting them! I can never say never - but, yuk! At least you were a good sport!
