We got a little bit of snow in the area on Thursday night which resulted in a snow day for the kids. I was laughing in disbelief at all the area closings because the grass wasn't even covered.
P.K. had a flight scheduled for Friday morning so we were all up at the regular time and ready to take him to the airport. We loaded the kids in the car, backed out of the driveway and noticed the ice covered hill in front of our house. We live in a cul de sac at the bottom of said hill so it is the only way out. Absolutely no traction. We couldn't make it out. It wasn't an ice storm. It was just where the snow had melted and froze. Very few roads get treated around here.
P.K. was able to reschedule his flight for Sunday morning. I was very surprised that the airline did not charge him to change his flight. The airport remained open and his original flight was on time. The really nice part was that he was already on vacation for the weekend so we got to hang out and have some family fun.
His new flight was scheduled for early Sunday morning. On Saturday, we ventured out, but found a lot of areas still had a considerable amount of ice. We didn't want to drive to the airport in the dark on Sunday morning and risk hitting ice, so we decided to get a hotel close to the airport on Saturday night. I found one that was advertised as having great views of the planes landing and taking off. I thought the kids might enjoy that. This is right as we arrived. If we were in the room and the kids were awake, they were watching planes take off and land out this window.
They stood on the balcony for a while. It was so cold, but that didn't bother them. Hannah had her notebook and was keeping track of how many planes they saw. This is Aaron watching out the window in the morning.
A view from our room.
It was so much fun that we decided the next time P.K. goes out of town we will do it again.

Wow! They weren't kidding about that view!
What a neat idea! I tell you, you ARE the fun mom! No doubt about it. :0)
Forget the kids-Gregg would be in HEAVEN with a hotel room like that! Glad you had fun-that was a great idea.
