He is risen!
Our church had a Saturday evening service this weekend to help with the expected crowd this morning. The sanctuary is packed on a regular Sunday, so there would be no way to handle the Easter overflow without adding additional services. Since P.K. was able to go with us last night, we decided to go then.
Aaron doesn't like changes to his "norm" so we had to explain over and over why we went to church last night and would not go this morning. I started by explaining to him that some people only go to church on Easter and Christmas and that means those days are very crowded. Our pastor asked for anyone who attends on a regular basis and was able to attend one of the extra services, to please do that. That would allow for those people who never or rarely come to church to have a seat and hear about Jesus. Aaron is only seven, but he has a heart for Christ. He gets that Jesus loves him. He gets that Jesus died for him. He gets that Jesus arose from the dead for him. I told him that in our home we celebrate Easter every day because we are always aware that Christ died for our sins and then arose from the dead. I think in his seven year old mind he couldn't get why we had to rearrange our schedule for something we do every day.
As we left church last night, Hannah was showing me her craft she made in her class. It was a little book with pictures that told the story of Jesus. When I flipped to the empty tomb, I showed her the picture and asked her what it was.
Hannah: It is a cave.
Jody: What's in there?
Hannah; (Wide eyed) Nothing.
Jody: Was there something in there?
Hannah: Jesus
Jody: Why is it empty now?
Hannah: Because Jesus rised-ed from the dead.
Jody: Yes. He did rised-ed from the dead.
He is risen indeed!
This is the first year the girls haven't had matching dresses.
Aaron loves to wear a tie.

a sun dress and sandals on Easter, I wish! There is snow forcasted for tomorrow!
Sounds like a lovely Easter. I can't even believe this myself, but I forgot to get eggs to dye this year, until Friday night. Then I had things to do to prepare for a family event on Saturday, and knew we would be gone all day. As hard as it is for me, I just let it go... I think it is the first year ever of skipping that event.
Joshua saw Hannah's blue egg and wouldn't let me scroll up or down. He loved it and kept having me show him the bunny face on the blue egg!
I'm with Becky . . . we didn't get snow, but it was chilly. Glad you had a nice Easter-in spite of throwing Aaron for a loop. Mackenzie was a little confused as well-we also attended on Saturday to free up spots on Sunday. I had choir however, so Mackenzie didn't understand why we weren't all going together yesterday.
He is rise-ed indeed!!! :) The kids looked so cute in their Easter clothes. My girls didn't have matching or even coordinating dresses this year either. We've done non-matching dresses before, but this is the first "just let it go" year for getting them into dresses... They did look cute, but I'm bummed to see the matching / coordinating era end... I don't care what anyone says--they are still wearing matching clothes when we travel. End of subject.
Ok, I know I'm probably crazy, but I loved the picture of the bowl of white eggs, right before they were dyed. I'm sure the colored eggs are fabulous, but I really got a kick out of the pan full of the clean, white eggs...
It wasn't quite hot enough for a sundress so the girls had their pretty white sweaters in case they got cold. I just wanted pics without the sweaters.
Kristy...I love that Joshua liked the pic of the bunny egg. Sometimes it is nice to let some of the traditions go and just enjoy the family.
Shan...I was going to make write about how I loved the pic of the clean white eggs. Too funny!
We didn't get around to the eggs this year. And the girls definitely didn't match. I'm surprised I even got Maeve in a dress! (Sam told her that if Jesus could come to Earth, be nailed to a cross to die for our sins, then at the very least she could wear a dress to Easter services) She wore a sundress. Claire wore her flower girl dress from my cousin's wedding last summer! It still fit but was a bit shorter.
I meant to tell you that we live 20 minutes from Murfreesboro! Jason works there and we did go to church there and just switched to the next town by us. We do most of our shopping in Murfreesboro. Saw some of the tornado damage yesterday as we went shopping. It is crazy, we just don't expect that much damage to happen to a place like that. Is your family okay??? Love the updates...keep them coming!!!
Awwww....they're beautiful in their Easter best. : ) Looks like it was a fun weekend.
